One of the Sydney's earliest small bars, Pocket bar has stood tall while other bars spring up within stumbling distance. Located on the corner of Crown and Burton St, Darlinghurst this bar has a great intimate feel. Decor is a combination of stripped-back walls, pop art and neo-grunge. It's a great place to kick off any night as the music is smooth and unobtrsuive with plenty of seating on funky old couches, along the bar and nearby tables.
Lines can form on busy nights and the small venue can have a slow turnover as people tend to stay a while: plan to arrive by 8pm on busy nights. The cocktail list is both detailed and extensive, but it can lead to some delays at the bar if you are picking a wine or beer from their more modest lists.
In brief: Pocket BarBest thing: Intimate feel, music that is played at a decent level Don't miss: The crepes, the decor Ideal for: Small groups, cocktails, catch-ups with friends, dates Date tip: Grab a two-seater couch early on and people watch, or up against the wall down the back of the bar Rating: 8/10
